Renfro Design Group, Inc., is an architectural lighting design firm committed to delivering the highest quality of professional services. We combine equal parts experience, passion, technology, knowledge and artistic expression to create designs that support the design goals, are appropriate for the end users, and enhance projects that are a source of pride in the community.
Renfro Design Group was built on the vision of its founder, Richard Renfro, an internationally recognized
and award winning lighting designer. Mr. Renfro‘s education in architecture allows him to bring
specialized knowledge to the collaborative process that is essential to the working relationship between
an architect and a lighting designer.
Mr. Renfro has spent his career developing innovative and creative techniques for lighting design
solutions. Early on, he demonstrated his inventive approach for a dynamic daylighting design at the
National Gallery, Sainsbury Wing, London.
Richard also designed a passive daylight system to control light at the Audrey Jones Beck Building at
the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Our team designed the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas
City, MO. These systems created animated and curatorially sensitive galleries.
In addition, Mr. Renfro assisted in returning New York City‘s Grand Central Terminal to its original
grandeur by restoring and enhancing the landmark’s historic lighting fixtures. He redesigned the lighting
system for the constellation of stars on the ceiling of the Terminal‘s Main Concourse using fiber optics to
make it more efficient and easier to maintain. In recognition of his work in the Terminal’s Waiting Room,
he was awarded the Illuminating Engineering Society‘s Lumen Citation.
