The Frick Collection’s Portico Gallery for Decorative Arts and Sculpture is the first new exhibition space to be added to the museum in nearly 35 years. The gallery has transformed an exterior loggia facing the Frick’s Fifth Avenue garden into a new interior space for the display of sculpture and porcelain artworks drawn from the museum’s collection.

A primary challenge was transforming the outdoor space without disturbing the building’s original limestone walls, columns or ceiling. RDG’s design employed a discreet track system incorporated into the new glass curtain wall with a series of custom replica pendant lanterns to match the existing garden fixtures. The new pendants included hidden adjustable accents to highlight the display cases and sculptures in the space.
