Richard Renfro, RDG’s founding principal, received a Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from the University of Arkansas. A summer IALD lighting internship brought him to NYC where a love of lighting design quickly redefined his career path. Richard became inspired by light’s movement through a space and its manipulation of architectural forms, which lead him to establish Renfro Design Group in 1998, after 15 years as a principal with the firm that brought him to New York.

Since the design studio’s inception, Richard has guided the completion of over 300 unique and impactful projects in NYC alone, with further outreach worldwide. As recipients of numerous acclaimed awards and recognition, Richard and the rest of the firm share the same ethos of using a tailored approach of lighting design to define and complement unique features of each project.
