The monolithic rotunda with west-facing curtainwall welcomes visitors of the Baltimore Museum of Art. The new lighting system located movable track at existing concrete embedded bosun chair rails for easier maintenance. Halogen point sources were replaced with shielded HIR PAR38s to illuminate the walls and AR111 to light sculptures. Sun studies were performed to ensure light would not enter into the adjacent collections.

The contemporary wing’s rotunda will host exhibitions from an artist commissioned by the museum. A fluorescent laylight system was replaced with recessed track, providing installation flexibility while accommodating a range of light level requirements for a variety of art media. The low ceiling galleries have recessed track with halogen wall washers and adjustable accent lighting. The new arrangements allow for changing displays of prints, drawings, and photography.

The industrial high ceiling galleries have a three-layer lighting system. The suspended track incorporates a dimmable LED uplight component to softly highlight the exposed ceiling deck and truss work. Wallwashers and accents are used to achieve an even wash on the walls, accent where needed and still meet conservation light level requirements. The newly renovated 17 galleries provide a glorious new setting that highlights the unique contemporary collection of the formable institution.
