The lighting for the loft of an art collector necessitated an approach that was both comfortable for a permanent residence and responsive to the presentation of museum-quality art. 

The sweeping curvilinear aspect of the architecture, combined with the owner’s request for no visible fixtures, provided a challenging task for discretely embedding the lighting into the architecture. Working within the shell of an industrial space, RDG was tasked with the added challenge of making the large central gallery appear to float under a soaring ceiling that was just under 9’ tall. 

Interchanging between luminous and opaque, the ceiling creates a flowing field of ambient and local lighting conditions, serving as an organizational element across the open exhibition / living areas. At the loft's more intimate spaces, lighting is seamlessly incorporated into shelving and ceiling niches to highlight the artwork and reinforce architectural forms.
